The Blessed Quintopus Tree

Tree with 5 skewed branches You can read the review on Google Maps for context - it and many of the follow-ups are a hoot. Odd-looking tree, said to be inhabited by the spirit of a Saxon princess who'd had her fingers pulled off by the Danes, now with miraculous healing powers for those who are digit-ally challenged. Many photos online of tree behind hands held aloft, often with fingers folded away or askew. Calling it an urban legend sounds wrong - I'll go with urban meme.

This was actually my second attempt to visit the tree. I'd seen it marked on maps last year, and walked through the area planning to see it, but couldn't find it - blame the woods being far more overgrown and green in the middle of summer than this time of year, and the tree's location on Apple Maps being not quite as accurate as on Google Maps.

But I was out for a stroll yesterday and found it, and I now have a bunch of photos, including one of my own hand (with surgical scar from the Great Bike Crash of 2012) laid upon the tree. I woke up this morning and the scar's still there. Well, obviously, because it's just a tree. Albeit a very cool one.
