Snow Report 2026
As with last year, we had a hint of snow in the run-up to Christmas - by which I mean, I was sitting at my desk on the nth floor at work, looked out the window and saw snow swirling around. Never settled, over too soon. A bit like life, some might say. Not saying I'd say that, but some might.
And also as with past years, in the run-up to Christmas and after, we've had the Forecasts of False Hope, saying snow in a few days' time, snow next week, and then downgraded to rain, or quietly forgotten.
So what a thrill to wake up on the Friday morning after New Year's to see the neighbourhood covered in snow. Hadn't even been forecast, I don't think. I had a great time crunching through the snow on the way to work. No more snow fell, but it was cold enough that some of the shaded areas in our neighbourhood had snow and iced over-roads until well into the next week. It's remained rather cold since then, and a fair amount of rain, with more snow swirling past the office windows one day this week. The BBC's weather forecasts have had the one-snowflake-one-raindrop symbol for much of this weekend, but we've been long on rain and short on snowflakes, and temperatures are heading back up to double digits as I type this.
Still, it's early January. You never know.
