Referendums (referenda?) are the purest form of democracy: should we do X? Yes|No|Maybe. I just don't understand the counterarguments. They always seem to boil down to either 'we don't like what the outcome will be' or 'we don't think people can be trusted to make that decision.' Neither of these arguments strikes me as being very democratic.
