Now if I was in charge, I'd be doing my best to get people studying degrees that generate higher income. The more higher-earning people there are, the more tax revenue you get, the more money sloshing around the economy, the more prosperous the country is, the happier your voters are.

On the other hand, the more you penalise students aiming for higher-earning positions, the more inclined they are to bugger off and pay tax and contribute to the economies of other countries.

And the fewer of those higher-earning people there are kicking around, the more tax everybody else has to pay. I'm not sure what's progressive about that, Vince.
