Hey you! Don't watch that!

I was just watching the music video for Madness' "One Step Beyond" and thinking that the song must be one of the definitive songs of the 80s. Doing a little homework, I discovered that technically, it wasn't actually an 80's song at all. It was released in October 1979.

Which means that the song is now 25 years, a quarter of a century old. Sheesh!

(and I learned that in all that time I've always misheard the opening line...;-)

I love that song. I've never seen the video. Guess I'll have to find it.

Cheesy lip-synching, antics, and gritty production. Like good self-respecting music videos used to be. It'll take you back...

Oh, and bad fashion. Really bad fashion.

Great reference to that song in the movie High Fidelity... "Top 5 songs about death", when Laura's father dies.

If you haven't seen it, highly recommended movie.

Great movie, yes - I actually half-watched it on telly a few weeks back, and I'd seen it when it hit the big screen. The frightening thing is that I knew some guys who were that encyclopaedic about their music - always blew me away! :)
